Information About Contacting Your Lender With Short Sale Questions

Visitors to our short sale web site often ask how to contact their lender. If you have tried, it was probably an exasperating experience. We've found that finding the right number is often very tough.

In response, we've gathered as many of the lender numbers as we could and have provided them as a PDF document for you. It's an easy download from the section below. We hope this helps a bit.

IMPORTANT NOTE: We recommend using an attorney/negotiator when communicationg with your bank about a short sale. There can be legal consequences best reviewed and explained by a qualified attorney and/or tax advisor.  See the "negotiating with your lender" section of this site.

If you choose to contact your lender personally, many say the following list of suggestions is helpful.

  • Call them when you know you'll have time to spend on hold. An hour block of time is not uncommon.
  • Have pen and paper ready to take down notes. Documentation of who you talked to and when is important as well as the information they give you.
  • Be as nice as you can. The people behind the scenes we've talk with say the person answering the phone is probably as overwhelmed as you are.
  • Take good notes on the items they say they will need from you. If they tell you about specific forms, ask where to find them. Most will expect you to have Internet access to download the various forms. We have samples of many forms under the "forms" button on the home page.
  • Ask for time-lines on when information needs to be to them and how/who to send it to. As them if you need to put your loan account number on all the forms... for many this is very helpful.
  • Ask them if they have an idea on how long before they will contact you after you've submitted the info.
  • Ask them who you should contact if you do not hear back from them. Get a phone number, extension, department name and if there is a specific person you should ask for.
  • If you are using a professional negotiator, something we strongly recommend, they may do some or all of this leg work for you.

We hope this information has been of help. If you have questions or concerns, please let us know and we will do our best to provide help.

Best of luck to you on your short sale journey,
